It makes sense that matching jobs to people with personalities keyed to enjoy that type of work is a
wise way to hire. However, are psychology tests the best way to go?
Dennis Drew, author of the Personality Evaluation Program, doesn't think so.
"The very term psychology test strikes fear into the heart of mortal man," he states emphatically.
"Very few people wish to have their inner secrets revealed. Who would want to take a psychology test that pulls skeletons from the closet? The concept immediately causes people to start putting up defensive walls."
This makes sense. Anyone who has ever taken a psycholgy test and read negative results not only
becomes immediately defensive, those negative aspects can intimidate and cause emotional scars... even denial.
"Most psychology tests have been written with one main goal: to show abnormalities in the
psyche," Drew continues. "While this may have value in therapy... it has very little value in the business environment. Everyone has flaws; focusing on those is usually not beneficial. Focusing on the POSITIVE is what brings real benefit to the business. That is why I wrote the Personality Evaluation Program from the very start to work within the business environment, not to act as a psychology test, but rather to act as a POSITIVE personality profile, providing human resources with a quick, accurate, to-the-point analysis containing information specifically valid to the workplace."
Many psychology tests are lengthy and time-consuming both to complete and to print out. "What
value is a profile that takes an hour or more to fill out, and another 30 minutes to print?" Drew asks. "I saw one psychology test that presented 150 pages of in-depth information. No matter how accurate, what HRM department wants to wade through all of that... especially when interviewing dozens of potential applicants?"
"PEP is not a psychology test per se. It is a fast, easy-to-use personality profile that can be
completed in five minutes, from the moment the person starts filling out the response form to the final printout. This makes the Personality Evaluation Program a valuable tool in the workplace, more specifically tailored to HRM needs than a standard psychology test. I believe that is what gives PEP its real value. Of course, the amazing accuracy of this profile is its major asset. There are many psychology tests on the market that have very questionable results. When people see their PEP report, their jaws hit the floor. When people ask that their mates take the same test they just took... that's a strong indicator of the value of the system. No psychology test I've ever seen can do what PEP does, as quickly and as accurately."
